USUS is voluntary membership organization comprising a confederation of student representative organizations in faculties and academies through the University of Sarajevo. USUS has 24 constituent members.
USUS is one of the largest student organizations in the region and represent the interests of around 60.000 students in higher education through the University of Sarajevo. We provide research, representation, training and expert advice for individual students and students associations.
Students associations are the backbone of USUS and are integral to student life. They provide a broad range of services from welfare advice and information to clubs and societies, bars, shops and catering services, student community action projects and charity fundraising events.
Students associations also play a vital role in facilitating the representation of students' views within the faculties. Students' association’s officers often sit on the board of governors of the faculty or at the faculty Senate.
All student associations decide on their own if they want to become a member of USUS. The membership is free. If a student association is a member of USUS they are obliged to elect representatives, which will take part at the General assembly. The general assembly is the highest body of USUS and it elects the President and the Secretary General for a term of two years. The Secretary General elects the secretaries which then form the executive office of the Union.
USUS delegates 5 members of the University Senate. Although this is almost 20 % of the overall votes in the Senate, doing with the minor influence of the Senate, these representatives can not influence the faculty’s policies too much.
USUS is financed by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Canton Sarajevo and by projects organized by USUS.
