The Student Union of the University Ss. Cyril and Methodius was founded in 1949. It is a non-governmental, non-political and non-profit organisation which represents the rights of all students at the University regarding of their ethnical, religious, social, gender or any other background. All students at the University are its members.

The organisation has a General Assembly (representatives from all faculties), Executive Board (15 members) and President of the Board. It functions on central and local level- all faculties have a faculty organisation with same or similar structure as the central one. The faculty organisations delegate the representatives at the General Assembly. The General Assembly verifies the mandate of the Executive Board elected by the president (taking into consideration the input of the faculty organisations). The president is elected on direct elections (all students with an ID student card have the right to vote).

The Student Union has 5 strategic goals:

1. Raising the student standard

2. Implementation of the Bologna Declaration and the other reforms

3. Increasing the international cooperation

4. Regulation of the student rights (building institutions for their implementation and reforming the existing once)

5. Regulation of the student movement

The organisation has built a strong cooperation with Ministry of Educating, the Bureau for development of the Education, the Rectorate, the Deans, the Agency for Youth and Sport... It is a key partner to all institutions in the reform process and the implementation of the Bologna Declaration. It has a strong international cooperation (the Student union is a full member of ESIB, member of the World Student union, and has built great cooperation on regional and local level). With three other organisations it is part of the National Student Union where it plays a key role in building of the student politics.
